The project brings together two communities to practice collaborative visual learning in a new way. WashUCity connects Washington University juniors and seniors in communication design with sophomores, juniors and seniors in graphic design at University City High School. Under faculty supervision, Washington University students devise and teach a curriculum that develops visual skills in form, methodology, and technology for application in a wide variety of contexts. Through repeated, close interactions with college students and emphasis on formal and visual problem-solving skills, this design partnership presents high school students with an exciting set of possibilities for their futures — in communication design and beyond.

The Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design ranks sixth among America's Best Architecture & Design Schools, according to the 10th annual America's Best Architecture Schools study by Design Intelligence.

The survey ranks accredited undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of leading practitioners. Conducted in mid-2008, it tapped professional practice leaders who have had direct experience in the hiring and performance evaluation of recent architecture and design graduates.

More than 200 leading firms were queried about which college and university programs have best prepared students for professional practice. This is the third straight year Washington University's Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design has earned a top 6 ranking in the study.
